Don’t Blink: Chris Hardwick and Lydia Hearst have Tied the Knot

It was the geek-inspired wedding to end all geek weddings with droids, Jawas and Doctor Who themed everything. But rest-assured, the Nerdist host Chris Hardwick and his love for all things nerdy didn’t outshine the bride on her big day. The pair celebrated their love for each other and their love for their fandoms in a way that one would expect from our favorite Walking Dead therapist.

Chris Hardwick and Lydia Hearst were married in a ceremony that was held in Pasadena, CA with nearly 500 guests in attendance. After the bride and groom made their way down the aisle, they were waiting for the special ring bearer, an actual Star Wars droid, to bring the rings. But working with technology during your wedding ceremony will provide you with some mishaps. The droid got stuck halfway so the little Jawas (which were probably kids in costumes, or actual Jawas) helped the droid make its way down the aisle.

Hardwick took control of the situation by rushing down the aisle and saying “What are you doing? What am I paying you for?” He then said to the head Jawa “You said this would work!” It was all very funny according to those who were in attendance as they watched Hardwick retrieve the rings from the droid and take them to the altar himself.

The reception resembled a mini Comic Con with stars from Buffy the Vampire Slayer Michelle Trachtenberg and Seth Green were spotted catching up near the Tardis themed wedding cake. Others in attendance included mother-of-the-bride and socialite Patricia Hearst and comedian Sarah Silverman as well as cast members from The Walking Dead.

The Road to the Wedding

Model and actress Lydia Hearst said Yes to her Nerdist CEO boyfriend Chris Hardwick on Saturday September 12 2015. Lydia is the granddaughter of the late publishing titan William Randolph Hearst. The pair were both so excited to share the happy news and have been blowing up their Instagram pages ever since with adorable couple-themed photos as they let their followers in on their plans for the big day.

Lydia’s engagement ring was a family heirloom that belonged to her grandmother Catherine Hearst. Her mother Patricia graciously passed it down to Chris to present to Lydia.

The pair made their debut as a couple in December of 2014 at a GQ Men of the Year part in Los Angeles and made it official by sharing a kiss on the red carpet.

Fans of Hardwick and his heiress fiancée were able to come along for the ride as they followed the pair’s social media accounts and saw almost every detail of their wedding preparations. Chris and Lydia shared photos of their custom invitations to their wedding, showers and other events that featured imagery from The Walking Dead and Doctor Who.

The night before the wedding the couple celebrated with a rehearsal dinner and Hardwick posted a photo taken by Patricia Hearst showing him kissing his future wife. He hashtagged the pic with #AlltheEmojis.

Lydia celebrated her bachelorette party weekend at the end of July inside her great-grandfather’s Hearst Castle located in San Simeon, California partying with friends inside the extravagant indoor pool with fun inflatables.

Online viewers also got to get a first look at Lydia’s beautiful wedding dress, in a black and white photo shoot. The true colors of the gown were not revealed until the big day. She wore a bespoke fuchsia and white wedding dress that was designed by Christian Siriano. The glittering long-sleeved and sheer tulle gown was simply an elegant choice for the new Mrs. Nerdist. Chris also looked handsome in his Prada tuxedo.

The Wedding Reception

The pair’s love for all things sci-fi was a big inspiration for the wedding décor. Their florist even got inspired by their favorite fandoms by incorporating red roses, Tardis-blue hydrangeas and Vanda orchids into the big day. The wedding planner Mindy Weiss also had water bottles that featured the couple’s initials designed in the shape of a Tardis. The couple shared their first dance as husband and wife to a song performed by country music star Clay Walker. Guests were encouraged to wear cowboy boots and cocktail attire.

According to People magazine, Lydia, age 31 and Chris, age 44 sat down with guests for a four-course meal that included Thai spiced prawns, arugula salad, Chilean sea bass and beef fillet, topped off with the wedding cake.

The couple is now on their honeymoon in Tokyo, Japan and have already shared several photos from their adventures there.
